Drapes & Hardware

Why Order Your Custom Drapes & Hardware from RichTex Fabrics & Furnishings

At RichTex Fabrics & Furnishings, drapery isn’t just an accessory — it’s a craft. Every panel is handmade in the USA by skilled seamstresses, using time-tested techniques and premium materials. We include premium linings at no extra charge, and we sell drapery by the pair, ensuring you receive a complete, balanced look for your windows.

When you order from us, you’re not just getting fabric sewn into panels — you’re receiving a piece that’s measured, constructed, and finished to the same standards as high-end designer workrooms, but at a fraction of the price. From helping you measure to guiding you on hardware, our family-owned team is here to walk you through every detail.

  • Functional Drapes – Designed to open and close daily. They must cover the full window width and overlap at the center for privacy, insulation, and light control. Often lined with blackout or thermalsuede.
  • Decorative Drapes – Stationary panels used to “frame” the window. They add color, softness, and vertical height, but are not meant to move. These require less fabric and are more cost-efficient when you want the look of drapery without functionality.

Ordering custom drapes can feel overwhelming, but once you know the terms, it’s easy.

  • Cloth Widths – Most of our fabrics are woven 54 inches wide. To achieve the rich, full look of custom drapery, multiple cloth widths are sewn together into each panel. For very wide windows, a single panel may require several cloth widths to ensure proper coverage and fullness. At RichTex Fabrics & Furnishings, our Premium Drapes, On-the-Move Drapes, and Quick Ship Drapes are offered in two fullness options for functional drapes:
    • Single Width – Made with 2 cloth widths per drapery pair (1 cloth width per panel). Suitable for drapery rods up to about 42 inches wide.
    • Double Width – Made with 4 cloth widths per drapery pair (2 cloth widths per panel). Suitable for drapery rods up to about 84 inches wide.
    • Need a wider width? Call us for a quote! Our team can help with oversized windows or custom projects that require additional cloth widths.
  • Fullness – Refers to how much fabric is used compared to the width of your drapery rod. When you select the correct width based on your rod size, or order a custom width, our custom drapes are designed to provide plenty of fullness, ensuring they always look rich and elegant rather than skimpy or flat.
  • Draw Direction – Describes how the drape opens and closes. Left draw means the drape stacks to the left; right draw stacks to the right; split draw splits in the middle.
  • Fabric Repeat – Many fabrics have repeating patterns. If a floral repeats every 27″, that pattern must be matched at each seam. This affects both yardage and price.
  • Stackback – The amount of wall space needed beside the window when drapes are open.
  • Return – The portion of the drape that wraps back to the wall. The return is mainly determined by the type of hardware being used (the projection of the bracket or how far the rod sits from the wall). If hardware hasn’t been selected yet, the return is especially important to consider when drapes need to layer over other window treatments—such as blinds or shades—or when aiming for complete light control, as in blackout drapes.
  • Overlap – Extra fabric at the center of a pair of drapes so they close without gaps.
  • Header – The stiffened portion at the top of the drape. At RichTex Fabrics & Furnishings, we use a 4″ buckram header for crisp, structured pleats.
  • Hem – The hem is the bottom finish of the drape. At RichTex Fabrics & Furnishings, our hems are blind-stitched with a 4-inch double hem, adding weight for a smooth, tailored appearance and helping the drapery hang beautifully.
  • Pin Hooks – Metal hooks inserted into the header at each corner and behind every pleat. They connect the drape to rings or track carriers and allow for subtle height adjustments.

For proper coverage, drapery should extend beyond the window—typically a few inches past the window trim on each side. This extra width allows space for the drapes to stack neatly when open and helps prevent light gaps at the edges.

  • Need a wider width or custom width? Call us for a quote! Our team can help with oversized windows or custom projects that require additional cloth widths. We will help you translate your measurements into panel widths and fabric yardage, ensuring your drapes look perfect for your space.
  • Sill Length – Ends at the window sill; casual and practical.
  • Apron Length – Hangs a few inches below the sill.
  • Floor Length – Just touches the floor; the most common and versatile option.
  • Puddle Length – Extends several inches onto the floor; luxurious and romantic.

Fabric sets the tone of your drapery:

  • Linen – Light and breathable with a beautiful natural texture. Wrinkles easily and may “grow” with humidity, but loved for its timeless charm.
  • Cotton – Crisp, versatile, and available in solids, prints, and patterns. A good everyday option.
  • Blends – Linen-cotton blends or poly-cotton blends offer durability, wrinkle resistance, and excellent drape.
  • Performance Fabrics – Designed for busy homes. Fabrics like Crypton resist stains and clean easily while still looking stylish.
  • Sheers – Provide softness and filtered light, often layered with heavier drapes.

Standard Lining Options – All custom drapes from RichTex Fabrics & Furnishings include two premium lining options at no additional charge. Options include:

  • Thermalsuede Dimout – Provides insulation and blocks about 30% of light. Ideal for living rooms and everyday spaces.
  • Blackout – Blocks nearly 100% of light, perfect for bedrooms, nurseries, and media rooms.

Additional Lining Options – In addition to our premium standard linings, we also offer a variety of specialty linings for unique needs:

  • Interlining – An additional layer placed between the face fabric and lining. Adds weight, body, and fullness; highly recommended for lightweight fabrics like silk.
  • Classic Napped Lining – Offers the same advantages as interlining but requires only one layer of lining, simplifying construction while still adding warmth and body.
  • Rain Safe Lining – A moisture-resistant lining, perfect for bathrooms or shower curtains.
  • All-Purpose Lining – Lightweight and breathable, offering minimal light blockage; a good choice when heavy lining isn’t necessary.
  • Classic Sateen or Cotton Sateen Lining – A premium cotton lining with a smooth, lustrous finish and crisp hand, ideal for a more refined drapery look.

Call RichTex Fabrics & Furnishings to request any of these specialty linings for your custom project.

Pleats define the style and “personality” of your drapes, affecting both how they hang and how they look in your space.

At RichTex Fabrics & Furnishings, we offer four standard pleat types:

  • 2-Finger Pinch Pleat – A clean, classic style with pairs of pleats for a slightly lighter, tailored look.
  • 3-Finger Pinch Pleat – Traditional and formal; three pleats grouped together for a fuller, more elegant appearance.
  • 2-Finger Euro Pleat – Pleats are tacked at the very top, offering a sleeker, more modern version of the pinch pleat.
  • 3-Finger Euro Pleat – A fuller, more dramatic take on the Euro style, combining structure with contemporary sophistication.

We also offer a selection of custom pleat styles for a truly personalized finish:

  • Pencil Pleat – Narrow pleats gathered together for a soft, casual effect.
  • Tab Back – Fabric tabs create deep, structured folds while hiding the hardware.
  • Goblet Pleat – Rounded, goblet-shaped pleats, perfect for a formal, luxurious look.
  • Inverted Pleat – Creates crisp lines with pleats reversed to the back for a tailored, modern feel.
  • Rod Pocket – A simple sleeve at the top of the panel that slips directly onto the rod for a casual, gathered appearance.

Call RichTex Fabrics & Furnishings to request any of these custom pleat styles.

  • Traditional Decorative Rods with Rings – A timeless option that combines beauty with versatility. Available in a wide variety of finishes and styles, decorative rods are an excellent choice when drapery is meant to be a design focal point. Perfect for decorative drapes.
  • Zip Rods – Both beautiful and highly functional, zip rods are designed for smooth, one-way draw—making them ideal for wide windows and patio doors. They allow the fabric to glide effortlessly, balancing practicality with a polished appearance. A great choice when you want style, functionality, and ease of use all in one.
  • Track Rods – Sleek, minimalist, and extremely practical. Track rods are perfect for wide spans, large windows, or spaces where drapes need to open and close frequently. They’re especially popular in condos, rental properties, and casual spaces.

Drapery wands attach to the lead pleat, allowing you to open and close drapes without touching the fabric. These are highly recommended for Zip Rod Hardware and Track Rod Hardware systems where functionality is important. Wands should be hung behind the drapes.

Benefits include:

  • Keeps fabric cleaner and free from oils on hands.
  • Reduces wear on drapery hardware
  • Makes operation smoother, especially for very long drapes.

Sliding glass and patio doors often require wide one-way draw drapes that slide to one side. Pairing with zip rods or tracks makes operation easy, even for heavy fabrics.

Roman Shades

When ordering custom roman shades, one of the first decisions you’ll make is whether to choose an inside mount or an outside mount. Both options are beautiful, but each creates a slightly different look and function.

Inside vs. Outside Mount Roman Shades

Inside Mount
✔ Fits inside frame
✔ Clean, built-in look
✔ Shows trim
❗ Small side light gaps

Outside Mount
✔ Mounted above/outside frame
✔ Covers trim, blocks more light
✔ Makes windows look bigger
❗ Projects slightly into room

Which Should You Choose?
If you want a sleek, architectural look and your windows have enough depth, an inside mount may be the way to go. If your windows are shallow, if you’d like to maximize light blockage, or if you’d like to create the illusion of larger windows, an outside mount is often the better choice.

  1. Width: Measure inside frame at top, middle, bottom. Record the smallest.
  2. Height: Measure inside frame at left, middle, right. Record the tallest.
  3. Depth: Check that your frame has enough depth for the headrail (usually 1½″–2″).

👉 Pro Tip: Inside mounts look clean and built-in but may allow small light gaps on the sides.

  1. Width: Measure window and add 2–3″ on each side (4–6″ total) for coverage.
  2. Height: Measure from where you’ll mount the headrail (often 2–3″ above frame) down to desired length.
  3. Clearance: Ensure shade won’t hit trim, handles, or obstructions.

👉 Pro Tip: Outside mounts block more light and make windows look bigger.

The fabric you choose for your Roman shades doesn’t just determine how they look—it also affects how they function. The right fabric can set the mood of a room, control light, and enhance energy efficiency. Here are the most important factors to consider when selecting your material.

  • Style: Light cottons/linens for casual spaces, velvets/silks for formal rooms.
  • Light Control: Sheers filter light; medium fabrics balance light & privacy; heavy fabrics with blackout lining block nearly all light.
  • Durability: Choose blends or performance fabrics for high-traffic, sun-facing windows.
  • Patterns vs. Solids: Solids give a timeless look; patterns add personality; stripes can elongate or widen a room.
  • Lining: Always improves privacy, insulation, and protects your fabric.

👉 At RichTex, premium blackout, thermal, or ribs lining is always included at no extra cost.

Roman shades are a stylish, space-saving option for French doors, patio doors, and glass entry doors. They add softness and privacy without getting in the way.

Benefits:

  • Custom fit to clear handles and locks
  • Light control with blackout or thermal lining
  • Insulating against heat and drafts
  • Sleek design that saves space compared to curtains

Best Styles:

  • Flat Shades: Clean and functional for frequent use
  • Relaxed Shades: Soft and casual for bedrooms or living areas
  • Hobbled Shades: Adds texture and dimension
  • Motorized Shades: Great for tall or hard-to-reach doors

Measuring Tips:

  • Inside Mount: Works if the glass has enough depth
  • Outside Mount: Often best for full coverage and light control

Corded Shades

  • Operated with a cord or loop
  • Best for larger, heavier shades
  • Precise control, cost-effective
  • Must be secured for child/pet safety

Cordless Shades

  • Lift and lower by hand—no cords
  • Safe, sleek, and modern
  • Perfect for bedrooms, nurseries, family spaces
  • Not ideal for very large or heavy shades

Inside Mount

  1. Hold the headrail inside the frame.
  2. Mark screw holes.
  3. Drill through headrail into frame.
  4. Attach and test.

Outside Mount

  1. Mark placement above/outside the frame.
  2. Install L-brackets with screws.
  3. Snap headrail into brackets.
  4. Test for smooth operation.

👉 Pro Tip: For outside mounts, secure brackets into a stud, if possible, for extra stability.

Throw Pillow Guide

Throw pillows are one of the easiest ways to add comfort, color, and personality to your home. With endless options for size, shape, fabric, and trim, they can completely transform a room! Here’s what to know when selecting the perfect pillows.

Cover (or Pillow Sham)
The decorative fabric case that slips over the pillow insert. Covers can be removable with a zipper, envelope closure, or button back.

Insert
The inner cushion that fills the cover. Inserts can be feather/down (soft, luxurious) or polyester (firm, affordable, hypoallergenic).

Fill Power
A measure of loft and fluffiness in down/feather inserts—the higher the number, the plumper the pillow.

Knife Edge
A simple seam finish with no added trim; the fabric panels meet in a sharp “knife-like” edge.

Flange
A flat decorative border (usually 1–3 inches) around the edges of a pillow for a tailored look.

Piping (or Cording)
A fabric-covered cord sewn into the seams for added durability and a finished, stylish edge.

Welting
Similar to piping but often thicker or double—used for decorative emphasis.

Box Pillow
A pillow with side panels (gussets) that give it extra depth and structure, like a small cushion.

Bolster
A long, cylindrical pillow, often used for beds, benches, or as an accent on sofas.

Lumbar Pillow
A rectangular pillow designed to support the lower back, often used decoratively across chairs and sofas.

Euro Sham
A large square pillow (typically 26″×26″) placed behind standard bed pillows for layering and style.

Tassels / Fringe / Trim
Decorative embellishments that can be added to the edges of pillows for personality and texture.

  • Square: Most common (18″–24″), versatile for sofas & beds
  • Euro Sham: Large square (26″×26″), layered behind bed pillows
  • Lumbar: Rectangular, supports lower back, great accent
  • Bolster: Cylindrical, stylish for beds, benches, sofas
  • Box Pillow: With side panels, adds depth & structure

Sofas

  • Standard sofa: 2–4 pillows (18″–22″ squares + 1 lumbar)
  • Large/sectional: 5–7 pillows in mixed sizes (20″–24″ + lumbars)

Chairs

  • 1 square (18″–20″) or 1 lumbar for balance and comfort

Beds

  • Queen: 2–3 Euro shams + 2 standard pillows + 1–2 accents
  • King: 3 Euro shams + 2 king pillows + 2–3 accents (lumbar or bolster)

Getting accurate measurements ensures your custom bedding fits perfectly and gives your bedroom that polished, designer finish. Follow these simple steps:

  1. Mattress Size
  • Measure the width, length, and thickness of your mattress.
  • Don’t forget to include any mattress toppers or pillow-tops that add height.
  1. Bed Skirt Drop
  • Measure from the top of the box spring (or bottom of mattress) down to the floor.
  • Standard drops are 14″–18″, but custom sizing ensures the fabric falls exactly how you want—touching the floor without pooling.
  1. Comforters, Duvets & Coverlets
  • Decide how much overhang you want on the sides and foot of the bed.
  • For a tailored look: measure from the top of the mattress to the bottom edge you’d like the bedding to reach.
  • For extra coziness: allow a little more length to drape generously.
  1. Bed Scarves & Throws
  • Measure the width of the bed to determine scarf or throw length.
  • Decide if you want it to cover just the foot of the bed or extend further up for layering.
  1. Pillows & Shams
  • Measure your pillow inserts (standard, queen, king, or euro sizes).
  • Custom shams are cut to fit the insert snugly for a crisp, tailored finish.

Pro Tips

👉 Always measure twice for accuracy.
👉 Write down each measurement clearly before placing your order.
👉 If you’re unsure, our RichTex team is here to help guide you step by step.

Custom Cushion Foam

At RichTex, we make it simple to order custom cushion foam that’s perfectly suited to your project. Whether you need new inserts for sofa cushions, chair cushions, or decorative backs, we can order foam from the manufacturer in your exact size and shape. Custom foam typically takes about four weeks to arrive, and if you need an unusual shape, we can even work from a template you provide.

When you order foam through RichTex, you get:

  • Custom Sizes & Shapes – Standard rectangles, rounded corners, or fully custom templates.
  • Two Density Options – Standard density for cushion backs, and high density for seating.
  • Expert Guidance – Our team will help you choose the right option for comfort and longevity.
  • Family-Owned Service – Friendly, knowledgeable support every step of the way.

When choosing cushion foam, here are a few terms you’ll come across:

  • Density – The weight of the foam per cubic foot, which determines its support and durability.
  • Dacron (Poly Wrap) – A soft polyester fiber wrapped around the foam. It smooths edges, gives a full look, adds longevity by protecting the foam from wear, and helps cushions slide easily into their covers.
  • Batting – Cotton or polyester padding used in bedding, quilting, or upholstery projects (not typically used for foam inserts).
  • High Density Foam – Ideal for sofa and chair seat cushions. Holds its shape, resists sagging, and provides long-lasting support for everyday seating.
  • Standard Density Foam – Best for cushion backs or lighter-use cushions where softer support is preferred.

We recommend adding a Dacron wrap to most cushion inserts. Dacron creates a smooth, rounded finish and makes cushions look plump and professionally tailored. It also extends the life of both the foam and the cushion cover by reducing wear and friction.

Every project is unique. At RichTex, we can order foam in nearly any size or shape you need—whether it’s a simple square or rectangle, or a custom T-shape, L-shape, or trapezoid. If your project requires something specific, just bring us a template, and we’ll have it made to your exact measurements.
