As you peruse your decorative pillow options, begin by looking at the various styles of edging. The most common styles are knife edge, flange edge, and welted edge.
1. Knife Edge
In its simplest form, a knife-edge pillow is just two pieces of fabric that have been sewn together around the edges, forming a knife-edge or a sharp, simple seam. Can be used on square, round, & lumbar shape pillows.
2. Flange Edge
A classic fabric decorative accent, added along all four sides. A flange consists of fabric with a seam allowance ranging from 1/2″ to 3″ beyond the dimensions of the pillow. For a high end finish, a mitered corner completes this tailored look.
3. Welted Edge
A knife edge pillow with the addition of a decorative cord or welting at the seam. Piping or welt cord is usually created by folding a strip of fabric over a cord and sewing it into the seams of the fabric. It can be used in various thicknesses and can be made with coordinating or contrasting fabric.
