Tip #1: Measure Your Window and Your Drapery Rod

If you don’t have a drapery rod yet, please go ahead and estimate the width of the rod. It’s more important to consider the width of your rod than your actual window width your drapes should be made wide enough to fit the full width of your rod with plenty of fullness.
If your drapes will be non-functional (you never intend to draw them closed and they are only for decorative purposes) the width of your window and rod isn’t as important but you’ll still want to select a width that provides enough fullness to compliment the size of the window.
When figuring the finished length of your drapes you’ll need to measure the height of your ceilings as well as the height of any crown molding in the room. You’ll need to consider how high you’d like to install your drapery rod as well as how you’d like the drapes to hang (above the floor, “kiss” the floor, break at the floor, or puddle on the floor).
